For the big fat Indian weddings...

Wedding Look!

Well well, it’s not just the bride who has the big dress decision to worry about! It’s the guests too! Moreover, we also need to impress the guys 😛

While you’ve bought the traditional ghagra for the sangeet and the sari with the sexy blouse for the reception, it’s the cocktail outfit that is often the trickiest. Whether to opt for a short dress or a gown.

Although the cocktail party gives you an opportunity to take a break from your traditional attires and loosen up in your favorite western dress, it is of course not a mandate to wear them. Plus not every aunty in the family would be able to digest you wearing a short dress!

#1 Fusion Wear

Due to all the above reasons, I opted for a crop top and a traditional skirt. The slit on the shoulders of my top attracted my attention the most. It was unique. That was one of my statement piece which was so simple yet so stylish from Archana Kochhar. It was worth the buy for the perfect fit it gave me! I got my skirt fabric from Saroj at Khar and tailor made the skirt. The can-can’s underneath my skirt gave it the required volume and the earrings completed my look.

#2 Dhoti Style

For all the cool and trendy brides maids, this bold and stylish outfit will definitely make you a trendsetter. A lot of easy-to-wear dhoti sarees are now in. No drape drama required. This outfit literally made me stand out because of it’s style and classic sheer back. In the previous outfit, my foot wear didn’t matter much due to the long length of my skirt, however here I got a chance to flaunt my wedges and also my clutch 😛

P.S. – I borrowed this outfit from a friend. It came along with leggings, which I decided to leave behind at home 😉

#3 Glam Glam

For the mehendi and sangeet functions, I didn’t want to spend much because my engagement outfit already costed me a bomb. So I just pulled off this look on the spot with a blue blouse and my mom’s multi colored skirt. The dupatta, nose ring and bindi added the traditional touch and I was good to go.

Trust my above ideas helped decode the attire requirements for a wedding, especially a one where you aren’t that close to the couple but of course need to yet look chic.

Few notes from my side would be –

  1. Since wedding outfits are not always kept ready in our cupboards, better to pre plan much in advance for all your outfits.
  2. Comfort comes first. The weather is pretty chilly, so don’t hesitate to carry a stylish shawl or wear high necks.
  3. Don’t go over board on spending, these outfits are kept in the wardrobe all year long and you never want to repeat them once you’re clicked in it 😛
  4. Glitter is the mantra of this season. Try embellished stuff and look royal and exquisite.
  5. Play with your hair, I have curly on one night and straight on another 😀

See you’ll,

Kritika.
