Summer Casuals

Summer Outfits

The reason I chose to write about holiday casuals is because, after spending more than a year indoors, with no parties to attend or restaurants, bars and coffee shops to flock, people want change. They want to dress up and feel good about themselves.

The concept of “revenge shopping” is something only a developed country such as the States can afford or China where the luxury market is booming due to hardly any cases at all.

In India, rather than going all out with animal prints (especially cow and zebra), I thought to share a few looks I donned on my weekend getaway (close to home) that are easy and fun to implement if you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe.

Solids

Solids may seem plain but a dress with a good neckline or the waist being clenched with a nice belt can look really classy. I accessorized mine with a hat šŸ˜€

Prints

This high-low peek-a-boo floral dress is so refreshing to wear. I simply love its knot straps for how it accentuates my shoulders and mid riff. Some long earrings with it feels even more chic.

Solids & Prints Fusion

If you’re lying on the fence and are not yet ready to give up your sweatpants life, these printed shorts paired with a solid cami top helps you get the best of both worlds šŸ™‚ Top off the outfit with oversized sunglasses.

Crochet Romper

I dyed my white playsuit lying in my cupboard into sea green instead of buying a new piece. Wearing it after its transformation gave me the same feeling as if wearing a new one. I simply love high-waist, crochet material and peplum layers!

P.S. – I bought all these outfits from a store called “Cherry fig” at Pali Naka, Bandra West, Mumbai.

Hope this leaves you optimistic and makes you want to get out of your pyjamas šŸ˜›

Two of a kind - Jackets!

Outdoor Guide!

Look #1

The denim jacket is an essential but sometimes we donā€™t have a clue what to wear it with because we literally always eat and sleep in our denim jeans (I have paired it with a denim skirt in this look).

1

Mine is a slogan jacket but before buying it, I was confused with so many other optionsĀ  involving cool patches and some even ripped and metal accessorized.

Buying the correct size is of utmost importance. Oversized jackets look great but are not always the best option (Notice how I have tied a front knot with the jacket Iā€™m carrying off to prevent the extra loose effect).

2

A denim jacket is a transitional piece. The denim on denim look never goes out of fashion and can be worn with a hoodie, dress, corset, absolutely anything!

Look #2

I tried to pull off the most famous ā€œAirport Lookā€ here in my hotel before I left for my flight.

I think summers call for shorts / skirts. This was a combination of both ā€“ A shorts cum skirt piece. Hence it was very easy and comfortable for me to wear it throughout my plane journey.

4

An essential here would be not to underestimate the cold and carry a jacket during your travel. Im glad I didn’t forget to carry my Bomber Jacket with of course my shades (Again a travel / summer essential).

3

Lastly, ensure you accessorize your look with again something comfortable like a sling bag. I think the maroon shade was blending perfectly with the black and white outfit.

Sport Wear. . .

Getting it worked up. . .

I don’t think all of us are gym people but wearing good sports wear is a motivation in itself!

Yoga pants are my favourite! I think since the time VSā€™s PINK started them, it became a thing. If Mumbai ever experienced winter, on the weekends we could pair them with knee-high boots and an oversized sweater or even wear them underneath a dress.

In the below look, I have managed to pull of neon yoga pants with a plain simple Tee. I suggest if you too plan to pull off your zaniest tie-dye pants, then try stay minimalist. You could also layer it up with a good sweat shirt / hoodie which I should have but didnā€™t. One can also wear a crop top and a bomber jacket like the Jennerā€™s šŸ˜›

I am glad to have cut my hair short, but you ladies with the long hair can carry of a half bun and also accessorise your outfit with a pair of sunnies (If it isnā€™t raining).

Outfit Details –

T-Shirt – H&M

Yoga Leggings – Puma

Shoes – Nike

In the next look, I went in for a not so tight fitting and body-con outfit. Even simple track pants can look ultra-feminine.

4

Wearing Disney anyway makes you feel cute and accessorising it correctly like with those long shiny zips and sweat band can help look athletic.

5

The best part about the outfit is the sexy back of the top with the perfect sports bra to go with.

Top – Disney

Work-out track pants – H&M

Our last lookĀ was a mix of the above two. I chose body hugging pants with those attention seeking pockets and jogger-style bottoms with a relatively loose top above.

This look was intentionally meant to be sober and subtle and hence light pink and white were chosen as colour combination.

It is really annoying to go for a run in these rains, but you wonā€™t just get that ass by sitting on it right! I’m trying too šŸ˜¦ So letā€™s hustle for the muscle and do DM on our Instagram page in case you have any questions.

Spring Evenings!

Coffee Date

I assume black is everyoneā€™s favorite color (Mine too, after pink though ;P), I fell in love with this top as soon as I saw it in Hong Kong. Love for Crochet tops is just growing day by day and this one with strings attached was a pretty cute piece I managed to grab.

DSCN1787

My inspiration behind this outfit was mainly Chiara Ferragni (Especially my bag). For those who donā€™t know her (I didnā€™t too until recently), she is a very famous Italian designer and model and I am in love with her street style. Her bold and young collection is goals! You can check out her E-book known as ā€œThe Blonde Saladā€.

Glitter love is seen everywhere in my outfit! My shoes, bag, accessories and eyeliner are enough to speak! I used ColorBarā€™s eyeliner and glitter dab on my face for that extra glow. Any more shine would ruin the look. The best part about it was it blended very well with black. I got the in-between look; Not so cash and not so party.

Since sequence is also a thing now, I wasnā€™t hesitant to pick up that sequence bag (Would also like to pick up a sequence mini skirt). The light pink shiny shoes, dangly earrings and statement ring (P.S. – All bought from ShoppersStop) just completed my look.

DSCN1808

Jeggings were bought from Linking road, Bandra and my favorite pom-pom iphone cover too a pick from Hong Kongā€™s night market šŸ™‚

Gitika/Ruchika always try to get my natural candid pics, but I can never stop posing šŸ˜› After a while I become so exhausted that I get confused what to do and then we end the shoot! Do suggest me good poses and tips on how to remain calm and patient šŸ˜›

DSCN1788

Till then ladies, try out the black on black with a touch of glitter. Hope you had a lovely Woman’s day (Though we don’t really need one specific day dedicated to us to make us feel important) and also a fun-filled colorful and happy Holi!

Do write to us in case of anything! Love to hear from you :*

For the big fat Indian weddings...

Wedding Look!

Well well, itā€™s not just the bride who has the big dress decision to worry about! Itā€™s the guests too! Moreover, we also need to impress the guys šŸ˜›

While youā€™ve bought the traditionalĀ ghagraĀ for theĀ sangeetĀ and the sari with the sexy blouse for the reception, itā€™s the cocktail outfit that is often the trickiest. Whether to opt for a short dress or a gown.

Although the cocktail party gives you an opportunity to take a break from your traditional attires and loosen up in your favorite western dress, it is of course not a mandate to wear them.Ā Plus not every aunty in the family would be able to digest you wearing a short dress!

#1 Fusion Wear

Due to all the above reasons, I opted for a crop top and a traditional skirt. The slit on the shoulders of my top attracted my attention the most. It was unique. That was one of my statement piece which was so simple yet so stylish from Archana Kochhar. It was worth the buy for the perfect fit it gave me! I got my skirt fabric from Saroj at Khar and tailor made the skirt. The can-canā€™s underneath my skirt gave it the required volume and the earrings completed my look.

#2 Dhoti Style

For all the cool and trendy brides maids, this bold and stylish outfit will definitely make you a trendsetter. A lot of easy-to-wear dhoti sarees are now in. No drape drama required. This outfit literally made me stand out because of it’s style and classic sheer back. In the previous outfit, my foot wear didnā€™t matter much due to the long length of my skirt, however here I got a chance to flaunt my wedges and also my clutch šŸ˜›

P.S. – I borrowed this outfit from a friend. It came along with leggings, which I decided to leave behind at home šŸ˜‰

#3 Glam Glam

For the mehendi and sangeet functions, I didnā€™t want to spend much because my engagement outfit already costed me a bomb. So I just pulled off this look on the spot with a blue blouse and my momā€™s multi colored skirt. The dupatta, nose ring and bindi added the traditional touch and I was good to go.

dscn1380dscn1386dscn1391

Trust my above ideas helped decode the attire requirements for a wedding, especially a one where you arenā€™t that close to the couple but of course need to yet look chic.

Few notes from my side would be –

  1. Since wedding outfits are not always kept ready in our cupboards, better to pre plan much in advance for all your outfits.
  2. Comfort comes first. The weather is pretty chilly, so donā€™t hesitate to carry a stylish shawl or wear high necks.
  3. Donā€™t go over board on spending, these outfits are kept in the wardrobe all year long and you never want to repeat them once youā€™re clicked in it šŸ˜›
  4. Glitter is the mantra of this season. Try embellished stuff and look royal and exquisite.
  5. Play with your hair, I have curly on one night and straight on another šŸ˜€

See you’ll,

Going Cash with Blazers!

White Tee X Blue Jeans

There are days on which you want to dress up in something bold and adventurous but at the same time want to feel as comfortable and light as you would be in your pajamaā€™s. For days like these, the white T-Shirt X Blue Jeans is the most basic yet versatile combination you can have in your closet.

  1. Friday Office Days

Grey as a dark color gives the perfect required casual yet stylish look on the light Tee and blue Jeans. If you work in a media company or follow the casual Fridays or working saturdays kinda culture at work, definitely try this one out!

With the rains now gone, its no more a problem of letting your hair loose and being worried about them getting sticky. Luckily, for me, I had a good hair day! šŸ˜€

I personally love this blue and white vertical striped blazer. It something different and blends on point with my outfit.

Also, we chose to style them silver strappy sandals, but you can always try out sneakers and add various accessories to create your own look.

3. Black and White

Nothing so staple! You canā€™t go possibly wrong in here. Itā€™s the safest choice, but what we loved so much about this particular one was the unique neckline, the large buttons and the cuts compared to the normal collared blazer jackets.

Moreover this oneā€™s short in length and hence going very well with the high waist jeans.

From mom's closet..

Desi Look

I have realized I am always out of traditional clothes whenever any festival crops up. Then I hover around stores to get something decent to further realize ā€œWill I even wear this ever again other than on this particular occasionā€.

So I decided to dig into my motherā€™s wardrobe. To my surprise I found a lovely collection of skirts and ethnic tops. There is so much stuff which we never land up wearing and are hidden behind our cupboard somewhere, taking advantage of this, I did some mixing and matching and found myself an amazing dress.

DSCN0996

The printed V-neck top immediately caught my eye due to the work done on it. This meant I had to go for something simpler below. It is then when I found this broomstick maxi which blended perfectly with it.

Always remember, if youā€™re styling a printed long skirt with patch work, opt for simple Tā€™s or tank tops, else it makes the outfit look super busy. You can always add chic boho belts or statement neck pieces to get rid of the very very casual effect.

DSCN0997

However, one problem I faced was that due to the skirt being old and being washed plenty of times, itā€™s wrinkles had faded, so I decided to use this wonderful technique which you could apply too in order to get the crinkled skirt effect ā€“

  1. Wet the skirt completely in water
  2. Twist it several times from both its end while still damp (It should be so tight that when you loosen it, it twists back itself)
  3. Fold it from the center, down its entire length
  4. Leave it for an hour or two and get the wrinkled look once dry

The key to this look was to find a dressy top or an embroidered jacket to create that striking embellishment with the plain black skirt.

Coming to the footwear, I did not bother much as the skirt was a long enough to hide my feet. So the trick to creating a taller silhouette is to either wear high heels or an ankle length skirt for that lean look.

Two parts of the outfit that completely enhanced the look would definitely be the jewelry and the dupatta. Gitikaā€™s jhumkas, bangles and rings enlightened the entire look and the netted dupatta with the silver border looked lovely once I draped it loosely across my chest. Bling is always welcome in this festive season.

Seeing the Lakme Fashion Week (Especially Kareena Kapoor Khanā€™s look), I have also come to the conclusion that the ethnic theme has been one of designerā€™s favorite and season after season, we see it on the ramp walks as well as in real life.

So go ahead and incorporate this vibrant bright theme and do write to me in case of any help šŸ™‚

Acid Washed!

The Roberto Cavalliā€™s latest Pink Acid Wash Collection and the recent Vogue July issue cover inspired me to try out this chemical denim finish.

The reason behind keeping the jacket and the plain black tee constant in every look was to show the power of minimalistic dressing over different bottoms. One can yet looks ultra chic just by changing the footwear, accessories or hairstyle.

Acid washed pants are so so common and are plenty; instead we were excited to experiment with this beige colored denim jacket. Not all styles and colors go with this kind of denim, so we tried out 3 different looks –

  • Denim on Denim

Nip your waistline with a lovely denim skirt. We chose a high waist one with a flare to be able to show off the cute matching boho belt. This added the perfect carefree character to the look.

The mini backpack helped complete the college look and flats are always the easy comfortable choice one makes while traveling.

  • The Sporty Look

This look allows you to tie the jacket on your waist or let it even hang loose over your shoulders which is difficult to do in every other style to maintain the elegance.

The lovely joggers helped get the biker babe feel! We believe this one is for all the fierce rebellious girls out there. Love you daring souls! (I think twice before sporting such outfits).

  • The Sizzling Outdoor Style

If youā€™re eyeing for a rather formal outerwear, pair the jacket with a striped maxi and open block heels. You can use the jacket as an accessory to layer your look or even wear it as a cover up.

Plain tees are the only relatively less expensive pieces from your wardrobe that can be worn over jeans, skirts, basically almost everything , allowing you to pull of many different styles.

You can also opt for an oversized denim jacket on body hugging leggings or short middies with jelly flats or rainy boots to make life easier during monsoons and still look modern. I personally love the no-make up look and everything else minimalistic so go for it!

Give a green light to these jackets coz fashion here is getting serious šŸ˜‰

The Smoky Eyes

Hola guys!!

The other day I was just having a conversation with a colleague on the smoky eyes look. She told me she loves all makeup tutorials but she landed up doing something really weird as she missed certain small but important steps.

Hence we decided to share a few steps that we thought shouldnā€™t be missed. This is the first time, weā€™re blogging about make up application, so hope it helps!

Makeup can get very tricky. For our red maxi post, we were looking for something cute but fierce at the same time, so we decided to take help from Kritikaā€™s mother.

Here are a few tips and tricks for this gorgeous look šŸ˜‰

IMG_3250Ā

Itā€™s important to do the eye make up first, before using a concealer and foundation. This helps cover the uneven patches.

In order to prevent a fall out, you can tap colorless loose powder under your eyes and gently swipe the powder off after youā€™ve completed your look. You can also grab a tape or use an eye shadow mascara shield under your eye. This is a thing that we generally miss but is extremely essential for the messy ones like me. šŸ˜›

IMG_3248

So Kritika had already messed up the look several times and was later having a hard time keeping her eyes shut! Therefore, it is very necessary to stay patient and know that the easiest way to apply an eye shadow is to tilt your head up and look down straight into the mirror.

Donā€™t be afraid to define your eye shadow shape using a pencil, this is the mistake we made. You can later blend the shades and make the edges disappear.

Also if you want your make up to stand out, two important things must be kept in mind ā€“

  • Use an eye shadow primer or moisturizer under your eyes and over the lids to prevent your make up from falling off as the day goes on.
  • Apply a white liner along the upper eyelash to make your eye shadow colors look serious.

Whenever Iā€™m trying to doing the smoky eyes look, I look at the eye shadow kit in front of me and just land up staring and wondering which permutation and combination should I go ahead with. The most common way to go about is to use a lighter color on the lid area and a deeper color on the crease area. You can use a large eye shadow brush for the former and a crease defining brush for the latter.

Then blend the dark shade from your lashes to your crease in a soft circular motion using a small angled brush, Q tip or smudge brush. Avoid blending the eye shadow all the way to the inner corner of your eye unless you have really wide eyes.

As suggested by make up artist ā€“ Bobbi Brown, use a concealer before applying foundation because you wonā€™t use as much foundation if you conceal problem spots first.

IMG_3251

Even while doing the above, the primer, moisturizer and powder rule applies.

  • Choose a concealer/foundation that best matches your skin tone.
  • Examine your skin under neutral white light or natural daylight.
  • Choose wisely between a water based, cream based or powder based concealer/foundation depending on your skin type. The cream to powder based oneā€™s usually get cakey after a few hours.
  • Finish the look well, using an illuminating foundation or a matte foundation in case of oily skin.
  • Apply a color correcting concealer if required.

Dab the liquid on your face from inside to out in an upward motion using a brush, sponge or your fingers. Remember always use the upward motion.

Coming to the lips, we mixed two shades of red. This was Nehaā€™s idea. (Itā€™s shocking, but sometimes she can be smart too). Mixing the shades is always fun and exciting. Do try it!

In case you want to remove the excess oil off your lips, blot your lipstick using a tissue paper, reapply and then blot again.

If you are of a habit of eating your lipstick up just like I do, (Not because youā€™re hungry, but, just out of habit) and you donā€™t want to reapply it again and again, then just apply the shade of your choice, take a tissue paper, hold it over your lips and with a brush just dab some powder over it. It should work.

You can also use a touch of powder, concealer or foundation at the center of your upper lip and blend it well before applying your lip shade. Another option is to fill the entire upper lip using a neutral pencil and then applying your lipstick.

The Corporate Look

This shoot was one of a kind. Here we had to showcase something we wear to work everyday. With all the Instagram Monday hatred memes going around, we have tried our best to show that even at office, you can play with fashion and take style to work.

  1. The Chic Dress Look

If you arenā€™t afraid to flaunt yourself, this look is made for you. Women who love Knee length maxis and pencil skirts, just need to keep these little things in mind.

  • Never go shorter with a few inches above the knee
  • Big NO to dresses with low plunging necklines
  • Avoid long slits to maneuver in a pencil skirt

Since the black outfit looked already so glam, we decided to pair it with ballerinas. High stiletto heels and strappy sandals might have looked more attractive, but from work place perspective, we decided to go for closed-toe shoes.

In the second post however, we did not mind wearing short heels. The combination of the printed shirt and the pencil skirt made the attire look corporate. Classic pumps are always an option.

2. The High Waist

If youā€™ve got slightly more penchant for fashion, you must try this out. This is the latest in thing. One can also experiment with classy footwear here like cute wedges. We decided to go monochrome.

  • Try not baring too much skin in any blouse
  • Avoid spaghetti straps
  • Wear sleeveless but ensure the cuts are not too deep

When it comes to jewelry, opt for tiny and subtle pieces than sparkly bling oneā€™s. Looking professional is important.

3.Ā The sophisticated office wear

We simply love the tie front shirt! Believe me, anyone can pull off this trend. Pairing it with jeggings was the best idea. On the other hand, how could we forget a good blazer – A staple in every girlā€™s wardrobe.

  • Do not go for very bright neon colored blazers
  • Go for a well-fitted structured blazer
  • Avoid cardigans as they give a very casual vibe

Do not hesitate to experiment. At times, a single statement piece is required to complete the look.Ā On warmer days, one can style the look using scarfs. On colder days, try out opaque leggings.

However, it also depends a lot on your work place and culture. In not so strict environments, one can wear shirt and jeans, go loud on the lipstick color, wear nail art or carry fancy shoes.

One thing I find very difficult to find is a good office bag. At least I love the XXL size oneā€™s, in which I can carry almost everything. The thing is that they get common pretty fast, but personally I really appreciate the collection available at ā€œAccessorizeā€.

Also coming to hair, I think simple braids, ponies and buns work the best.

On an ending note, remember to always be yourself; Keep it simple, yet stylish. Love youā€™ll.

Kritika.
